Well, this is weird...
Adrian Beltre has supposedly signed a one year deal with the Boston Red Sox. Peter Gammons is apparently saying it is 1 year, $9 million with a $5 million player option...I have no idea why Beltre would want a $5 million player option for 2011. Maybe he's afraid he's about to suffer a career-ending injury, or the economy is about to collapse, but it seems extraordinarily unlikely that he'd be unable to get $5 million the following season.
This would mean that Mike Lowell has been made superfluous in Boston, and it means that the Adrian Gonzalez to the Red Sox rumor can be put to rest once and for all.
I'm really surprised Beltre was so cheap, if this is in fact true.
