Happy birthday to Curtis Wilkerson, who turns 49 today.
Wilkerson was a tiny middle infielder who came up in the Rangers system in the early 80s, couldn't hit a lick but could handle both shortstop and second base, and thus stuck around in a sort-of utility/sort-of starter role (since the Rangers were low on viable middle infielders back in those days).
Wilkerson ended up being included in the epic deal with the Chicago Cubs, being sent along with Mitch Williams and Paul Kilgus (plus some other guys) to Chicago for Rafael Palmeiro, Jamie Moyer, and Drew Hall.
Wilkerson had over 2500 plate appearances, and almost 1000 games, with a 591 OPS.
