It is official...Ron Washington says that Matt Harrison will be headed to the disabled list, and Derek Holland will be called up and will start Wednesday or Thursday. He's going to throw a bullpen in Arlington on Sunday to prepare.
The Rangers are holding off making a roster move for now, as they could end up d.l.'ing Harrison to call up an extra arm for the bullpen that would then be optioned when Holland is formally added to the roster.
You still have to question why Harrison threw 127 pitches so early in the year, and whether that is what led to him being put on the d.l. at this point.
But you also have to remember that Harrison wouldn't have made the Opening Day rotation if Tommy Hunter hadn't gotten hurt...he was okay in his time up here, but didn't do anything to definitively claim a spot, and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets the activate/option combo that Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Hunter had earlier this year when he's ready to come back.
Holland will get the opportunity, I suspect, to show he deserves to stay in the rotation.
