The confirmation hearing on the Rangers' bankruptcy plan has been moved back to July 22, and mediation has been ordered to take place on July 16.
I think this provides an incentive for the team and MLB to try to get something done in mediation, because absent an agreement there, it is going to be hard to get the bankruptcy plan confirmed on July 22, deal with the requests for emergency stays/appeals/etc., and then get everything transitioned and in place before the July 31 trade deadline.
At the same time, there's some indication from the last couple of hearings that the lenders aren't in a position of strength, so they may feel they've got incentive to get a deal done then, as well.
In any case, July 16 is now a date to circle on your calendars. Cross your fingers and hope that they can get something done there.
