Sunday morning Rangers stuff

New, comments

4.5 games up on Anaheim, after yesterday's win and the Angels getting shut down by Bruce Chen and the Royals.

8 games to go before the All Star Break.

Jeff Wilson writes in his game story that Tommy Hunter has posted a sub-2 ERA this season by following Mike Maddux's game plan, pitching to contact, and letting the defense take care of things.

Chris Cox's game story notes that Hunter has won on his birthday for the second year in a row.

Jeff Caplan writes that the Rangers hitters like playing behind Hunter, who works quickly and attacks the zone.

Scott Feldman gets the start tonight, and Anthony Andro has a story up about Feldman's struggles this year, and his hope to turn things around in the second half.  Ron Washington says Feldman's issues this season have been the result of his sinker staying up in the zone.

The S-T's notes include Elvis Andrus talking about being anxious to see if he made the All Star team, and Rich Harden saying that he's "feeling really good now" after his latest bullpen session.

The Rangers' website notes include discussion of Josh Hamilton's recent homer being measured at 490 feet, and Justin Smoak sitting yesterday for Joaquin Arias.  It will be interesting to see whether Smoak sits for Arias again today, with Mark Buehrle pitching.

Evan Grant has an in-depth story on Omar Beltre and Alexi Ogando, and their finally being allowed to return to the United States after being banned for so long.

Drew Davison's farm report takes a look at Blake Beavan, and his journey from fireballing high schooler to reliable, innings-eating pitcher as a pro.

Jeff Wilson has a story about the auction process in the bankruptcy court, and how this may be the quickest way for Greenberg/Ryan to take control of the team.
