Sullivan: Rangers "not optimistic" about signing Wilson

T.R. Sullivan writes that the Rangers are "not optimistic" about signing free agent lefty C.J. Wilson, and expect him to instead sign with either the Angels or the Marlins.

I don't think that should be a surprise to anyone. The Rangers have publicly said they wanted Wilson back, and I think at the right price, they probably would like to have him back. The "right price," though, wasn't likely to be close to what Wilson was seeking, or close to what he was likely to command in the free agent marketplace.

Jim Bowden just tweeted that Ron Washington says the Rangers went to five years on C.J. Wilson in the offer they made last night. The devil is in the details, of course...there's still the question of whether the offer is five years guaranteed, or has a vesting option, like the "six year" Adrian Beltre contract that is really five years with a vesting option.

Meanwhile, people are also tweeting that the Florida Marlins have gone to six years for C.J., which I think it is unlikely the Rangers were ever going to do.
