A few things that have caught my eye from around the interwebs...
Brandon Webb couldn't get loose this morning when trying to pitch a bullpen session and has been shut down. Uh oh...
Richie Whitt says the Rangers screwed up by trading Frank Francisco for Mike Napoli, because were it not for the Napoli trade, Chris Davis could be on the roster, Frankie could close (with Neftali Feliz moving to the rotation), and Michael Young wouldn't have demanded a trade...
Professor Parks has some Ranger minor league notes up, and includes some love for David Perez and a shout-out to Don Welke...
Joe Posnanski has a piece up on the Bonds trial that, like most things Pos, is worth a read...
Kevin Lai has a good piece at THT about how salaries have gone up the last 25 years in MLB, replete with graphs showing how those spikes have varied...
Keith Law has his top 50 draftee ranking up, and TCU's Matt Purke has fallen to #12. At #33, which is where the Rangers have their first pick, Law has high school shortstop Javier Baez...*
* This isn't a mock draft, of course, so don't read this as Law saying that is who the Rangers would take.
"Proven winner" Joe Saunders, acquired by the Diamondbacks in the Dan Haren trade, is one of three pitchers battling for two rotation spots in Arizona. It isn't clear if this is a motivational ploy or if he really doesn't have a rotation spot locked down yet, but I'd wager that, if he isn't in the rotation, Arizona will try to find a team in need of pitching to foist him upon.
Jon Paul Morosi thinks the playoffs should be expanded, to be fairer to the dregs of the A.L. East.
