Johnny Whittleman traded to the Kansas City Royals

The Texas Rangers have reportedly traded former second round draft choice Johnny Whittleman to the Kansas City Royals for a player to be named later.

Whittleman was originally drafted as a third baseman who projected to become a power hitter, but the power hasn't developed, and he was moved to first base last season.  Whittleman continues to draw a lot of walks, but essentially hasn't hit above A ball, and would be a minor league free agent after the 2011 season if he is not added to a 40 man roster.

I would expect the player to be named later to be a non-prospect.

Whittleman was a product of the Rangers' extremely disappointing 2005 draft class, which saw John Mayberry, Jr., selected in the first round.  Third rounder Taylor Teagarden and fifth rounder Michael Kirkman are the lone draftees from that class who have a chance to make an impact with the Rangers.
