Cruz, Hamilton could start rehab assignments this week

Evan Grant writes that two of the Rangers' three outfielders currently on the disabled list could go on rehab assignments this week.

Rightfielder Nelson Cruz, who is on the disabled list with a quadriceps injury, is scheduled to start a rehab assignment on Monday with AA Frisco.  Grant says Cruz will be the designated hitter on Monday and Tuesday, then play in the field on Wednesday and Thursday.  Cruz could be activated Friday, but that apparently will depend on how his timing at the plate is, as he was slumping prior to going on the d.l.

Josh Hamilton, according to Grant, is ahead of schedule and could go on a rehab assignment on Thursday or Friday.  Grant notes that Round Rock starts a homestand on Friday, and Hamilton could join the Express then and start getting some ABs as the team's DH.

It isn't clear whether Cruz's return would result in the Rangers going back to a 7 man bullpen, or if the Rangers would send Endy Chavez, Craig Gentry, or Chris Davis down instead to make room for him.
