Series Preview: Detroit Tigers @ Texas Rangers - The Eye of the Storm

It's strange to say the Rangers are getting a quick home series reprieve before heading back out for a ten game road swing when they just went 6-1 on the road, but here we are. The Rangers were one Evan Longoria pop-up home run away from completing a perfect road trip to begin this formidable 20 game stretch where the Rangers will eventually play 17 of those games on the road. And yet, these three home games sitting here like a restful afternoon in a hammock on a summer's day, lemonade in hand, radio tuned into the ballgame. The calm before the storm.

The Detroit Tigers were a benefactor of the Rangers road dominance. Because of the Rangers four game sweep against the AL Central leading Cleveland Indians, the Tigers were able to make up 2 1/2 games while they were winning a series against the Chicago White Sox and are now only 2 1/2 games out of first place. Thanks to the Rangers' helping hands, the Tigers made up 50% of their deficit in one weekend. Now, the hottest team in baseball (the Rangers) while face off against one of the hottest teams in the American League (the Tigers) in a battle to do some damage to each other's narratives.

Will the Rangers continue to plow through the AL Central (14-6 on the season)? Will the Rangers lay claim to the American League's best home record after doing their best to take that banner from the Indians (They're 19-11 to the Indians now 19-10)? Will the Tigers continue their ascension to the AL Central lead (They've made up 4 1/2 games in a week and a half)? These questions will be answered in this oasis of a series. And while it will be back to room service and unfamiliar places before the Rangers know it, it's nice to have a home cooked meal while you can.

Monday, June 6 7:05: RHP Max Scherzer vs. RHP Colby Lewis

Tuesday, June 7 7:05: RHP Rick Porcello vs. LHP Matt Harrison (Or possibly Dave Bush)

Wednesday, June 8 7:05: LHP Phil Coke vs. RHP Alexi Ogando

Some of my favorite Tigers names:

  • Jhonny Peralta
  • Andy Dirks
  • Casper Wells
  • Brennan Boesch
  • Don Kelly
  • Will Rhymes
  • Max Scherzer
  • Ryan Raburn
  • Magglio Ordonez
  • Justin Verlander
  • Al Alburquerque
  • Joaquin Benoit
  • Jose Valverde
  • Charlie Furbush
The Tigers have the market cornered on awesomely named baseball players. Except for Phil Coke. Phil Coke is a stupid name.

Questions to Answer:

  • Does anyone else think it's weird that the Rangers were scheduled seven road games, then three home games, and then ten more road games right after that? That's strange, right? What's up with that?
  • Who is your pick to lead the Rangers dongs and which Tiger will allow the most of those dongs in this series? (I'll say Adrian Beltre and Rick Porcello.)
  • Over/Under: 1.5 days where the "rangers7" code will be usable?
  • Can you guess who leads the Rangers in WAR? The correct answer will blow your mind's face off.
  • Is this Icalks_medium the best thing that's happened this season?
