Carlos Beltran reportedly going to San Francisco

According to many of the usual suspects on Twitter, the San Francisco Giants and the New York Mets are consummating a deal that is expected to send pitching prospect Zack Wheeler and two other players to the New York Mets in exchange for Carlos Beltran.

The Rangers were one of the teams thought to be in on Beltran, but it came out earlier today that they would not be landing him.

Wheeler was ranked #35 on the Baseball America mid-season top 50 prospect list (just behind Robbie Erlin), and it sounds like they were the one team in the mix willing to give up that level of prospect.

Wheeler was the Giants' first round pick in the 2009 draft, a righthanded pitcher having a solid year in the California League.  There were earlier reports that 2010 first rounder Gary Brown would be going to the Mets as the centerpiece of the deal, but it appears it will be Wheeler, instead.
