On this day, one year ago, we learned that Arizona Diamondback first rounder Barret Loux, a righthanded pitcher out of Texas A&M, was going to be made a free agent, allowing him to sign with any team as of September 1.

That ended up working out well for the Rangers, who signed Loux for a $312,000 bonus in November, 2010. Loux, who had agreed to a $2 million bonus with the D-backs before concerns about the health of his arm led Arizona to back off, has been solid this season with Myrtle Beach, putting up a 3.80 ERA in 109 innings, with 127 Ks, 34 walks, and just 6 home runs allowed.
