Nelson Cruz expected to miss three weeks

New, 109 comments

Texas Rangers right fielder Nelson Cruz is expected to miss three weeks after hurting his hamstring running the bases in yesterday's win against the Anaheim Angels.

The initial reports are that it is a Grade 1 strain, and Cruz presumably will head to the disabled list, with Leonys Martin replacing him on the active roster.

Adrian Beltre is set to begin a rehab assignment tonight, and Beltre supposedly hopes to return to the active roster on Wednesday.  If that is the case, Martin would likely be optioned, with Beltre taking his place.  However, if the plan is for Martin to stay up in September, then it probably would make more sense for Beltre to be activated when rosters expand on September 1, and Martin not to be sent down.
