PCL Top 20 List Includes Leonys Martin, but not Martin Perez

Baseball America's Top 20 Prospect List for the PCL includes Leonys Martin, but not Martin Perez

Tim Heitman-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Baseball America has their top 20 prospect list for the PCL out, and in a mild surprise, only one of the Rangers' two "Martin"s from their Round Rock affiliate made the cut.

Centerfielder Leonys Martin checked in at #17 on the PCL list, but lefthanded pitcher Martin Perez did not crack the top 20.

This is surprising, at least to me, since Martin Perez is generally viewed as a better prospect than Leonys Martin. Leonys did put up better numbers for Round Rock this year than Perez did, however.

The Round Rock Express were largely bereft of top prospects this season. Leonys Martin was the only true well-regarded prospect among the position players. Neil Ramirez, Justin Grimm, and Chad Bell were all among the pitching prospects who saw time at Round Rock, but Ramirez had a disastrous 2012 season, and neither Grimm nor Bell had the sort of performances that would vault one into the top 20.
