Ranger outfielder Josh Hamilton is, as you may have heard, a free agent this offseason.
He is also, as many have pointed out, a very unique case. He's one of the best outfielders in baseball. He is arguably the most naturally talented player in the game. He's also exceptionally streaky, often has a terrible approach at the plate, and is injury-prone. He also has that history of drug and alcohol abuse that you may have heard about.
So, in light of all that, we are running a poll...how many guaranteed years do you think Josh Hamilton gets on his next contract?
By guaranteed, I mean, not including option years, vesting options, etc. For example, Adrian Beltre's contract is five years with a vesting option for a sixth year. Under these guidelines, Beltre has a five year contract.
If someone signs Josh Hamilton to a seven year deal, but the fifth, sixth and seventh years are all options, then, for these purposes, it is a guaranteed four year deal.
