Various Spanish-language reports on Twitter are saying that Chicago Cubs reliever Carlos Marmol has been traded to the Anaheim Angels for starting pitcher Dan Haren.

Marmol is a high-strikeout, high-walk pitcher who has been a mild disappointment the last couple of seasons after once looking like he could be one of the dominant relievers in the major leaguers. He's under contract for 2013 for $9.8 million.

Haren was a disappointment for the Angels last season, posting a 4.33 ERA and pitching fewer than 200 innings for the first time since 2004. Haren will make $15.5 million in 2013.

Haren is someone who I thought would have been an intriguing option for the Rangers in 2013, either as a free agent on a short-term deal or via a trade. The Cubs are likely looking at giving Haren the chance to show he's healthier in 2013 than he was in 2012, when back problems plagued him, then will try to flip him at the deadline for prospects.
