John Blake just tweeted that the Rangers have acquired righthanded pitcher Cory Burns from the San Diego Padres in exchange for a player to be named later or cash.

Burns is on the 40 man roster, meaning that the Rangers' 40 man roster is now at 39.

Burns turned 25 last month, and is listed at 6'0", 205 lbs. He was an 8th round draft choice of the Cleveland Indians out of the University of Arizona in the 2009 draft, and was acquired by the Padres in December of 2011 in exchange for Aaron Cunningham.

Burns has put up solid numbers in the minors, although he struggled in 18 innings in the majors last season.

Burns' calling card is his changeup, which has reportedly made minor leaguers look silly hacking at it the past few years.

Burns should have either two or three options left, and should be a candidate for the Rangers' major league bullpen in spring training.
