Friday a.m. Rangers stuff

The Rangers change their Sox this weekend...after taking two of three from the Red Sox, they face the White Sox for three before starting a big four game series against the Angels at the start of next week.

And of course, the trade deadline is looming, and with Doug Melvin indicating the Milwaukee Brewers would be trading Zack Greinke before the deadline (and the Rangers being very interested in Greinke), that story will be hanging over the Rangers until Greinke is dealt. T.R. Sullivan has a story about the Rangers' interest in Greinke, and the strong position they are in to land him because of the depth of their farm system.

Jeff Wilson has a story highlighting starting pitchers the Rangers could be looking to trade for, as well as potential bench bats, although one of the players mentioned -- Ben Zobrist -- doesn't really fit, as Wilson writes that he's a "change of scenery" candidate, even though Zobrist has an 824 OPS and the second-highest OPS+ of his career. If the Rangers were to land Zobrist, he'd seem to be a fit as an everyday player, not a bench bat.

Sullivan has a story on the loss of Colby Lewis, and how the Rangers will miss his leadership. Gerry Fraley writes that the loss of Lewis increases the importance of Yu Darvish.

David Collier has a lengthy piece at the ESPN Dallas blog about minor league righthander Cody Buckel.

And Josh Hamilton, mired in a terrible slump for the past two months, acknowledges that he's having pitch recognition issues.
