The Rangers have activated reliever Koji Uehara from the disabled list. To make room for Uehara on the 25 man roster, Texas has optioned righthanded reliever Tanner Scheppers to AAA.
Uehara came over to Texas from Baltimore in July, 2011, in exchange for Tommy Hunter and Chris Davis. After an okay, but not great, two month run to end the regular season, Uehara was awful in the playoffs, and was not on the World Series roster. After trade rumors swirled around him throughout the offseason and spring training, Uehara bounced back to start the 2012 season, and had been one of the Rangers' best relievers before he was sidelined in June with a strained lat.
Scheppers, the Rangers supplemental first round draft choice in 2009, has shown flashes of dominance at times this season, but has also been very hittable when his command has been off. He is expected to be recalled when Round Rock's season is over.
