Per T.R. Sullivan, the Rangers have placed catcher Yorvit Torrealba on release waivers.
Torrealba was designated for assignment on July 31, 2012, when the Rangers acquired catcher Geovany Soto from the Chicago Cubs. By designating Torrealba for assignment, the Rangers had ten days to trade or release Torrealba. The Rangers reportedly were having discussions with the Washington Nationals about Torrealba going to Washington, but that came to a half when the Nationals acquired catcher Kurt Suzuki from the Oakland A's.
Torrealba was signed to a two year, $6.25 million contract prior to the 2011 season, and has split time the last two seasons with Mike Napoli.
