Why is Derek Holland pitching so well the past month or so? Did you notice the goatee? We apparently now have the evil parallel universe Derek Holland, and it's the good universe Holland that sucks.
Evan Grant had some thoughts after the game. One of the thoughts appears to be Evan rationalizing another MVP vote for Michael Young (I'm kidding... I think). He also quotes Geovany Soto on why Holland is pitching so much better: "I think he's matured." Yes, Soto, this guy has matured. His final point is that Roy Oswalt's and Scott Feldman's most recent terrible starts have served the greater good by giving the presumptive playoff rotation extra rest. This is known as the Boromir Postulate, wherein Roy Oswalt gets shot with a bunch of arrows so Sam, Frodo, Pippin, and Yu Darvish can all light out for Mordor. This should not be confused with the Uruk-Hai Theorem, which states that the Oakland A's were birthed by evil magic.
Grant also has a post saying that Josh Hamilton shouldn't be judged as "not a gamer" because he couldn't play with the sinus issues. He also says that he's still ready to endorse giving Hamilton a $175 million deal in an effort to resign him. Similarly, I still endorse my dad buying a Fisker Karma even though Consumer Reports' test car wouldn't start, because it's not my money and Fisker Karmas are still pretty awesome.
Jeff Wilson has a recap of the game, discussing C.J. Wilson's poor start and Holland's continuing streak of good starts.
Jordan Garretson at the Rangers' MLB.com site has a notes column, giving some statistical context to the Darvish / Greinke matchup and touching on Napoli's berserker mode being activated by playing the Angels.
Blair Angulo at ESPNDallas has a nice piece on how Derek Holland is a completely different pitcher than he was two months ago. You see, because the Derek Holland two months ago was awful, and this one kind of isn't. To my surprise, the team doctor did not cure Holland by performing a suck transplant into the host body of Scott Feldman. Or at least, if he did, it is not mentioned in the article. Angulo also has his rapid reactions.
Finally, here's 9 Ways to Treat a Woman. I think these guys make great videos, they just don't make enough of them.
