Baseball America has released their top 20 prospect list for the Northwest League today, and the Rangers have placed two prospects on that list.
20 year old righthanded pitcher C.J. Edwards, who also made Baseball America's top 20 list for the Arizona Rookie League this year, placed 8th on the list. Edwards, a 48th round draft choice in 2011, had 60 strikeouts against just 19 walks in 47 innings for Spokane while pitching in the Northwest League, and has yet to allow a home run as a pro.
20 year old pitcher Jose Valdespina also made the cut, coming in at #13 on the list. Valdespina, a 6'6", 220 lb. righthander who was signed as a free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2010, had a 5.58 ERA in 59.2 innings while striking out 54 and walking 34, but he impressed scouts with a fastball that can hit 97 mph and a slider he started throwing this year.
