According to Rangers p.r. guy John Blake on Twitter, the Rangers have signed RHP Kyle McClellan to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training.

Yes, it is that time of the offseason where signing Kyle McClellan warrants a front page post. I'm thinking about busting out the "Breaking News" banner, too.

McClellan has five major league seasons under his belt, all with the Cardinals. He started some games in 2011, but otherwise, has been used as a reliever. He has a career fWAR of 0.0. His best season in terms of ERA was in 2010, when he had a 2.27 ERA in 75.1 innings, but he had a .231 BABIP and a 90% LOB rate, so, yeah, that was probably a fluke.

McClellan is reportedly going to work in spring training as a starter, to give Martin Perez, Justin Grimm and Robbie Ross some competition for the fifth starter spot, while also giving the Rangers a possible candidate for the swingman/long reliever role.

Most likely, he'll spend 2013 in Round Rock as depth.
