Texas Rangers and Neftali Feliz agree on a one year, $2.9 million deal

Neftali Feliz gets $2.9 million plus incentives for one year

Jim Cowsert-US PRESSWIRE

The Texas Rangers have avoided arbitration with righthanded pitcher Neftali Feliz, agreeing to a one year contract with Feliz for what is reportedly $2.9 million plus incentives.

I'm kind of curious to see what the incentives are, since Feliz will reportedly not be back until August, and even then, will likely be relegated to a bullpen role. It doesn't seem like Feliz would have much opportunity to rack up innings or appearances to garner much in the way of incentives.

In any case, Feliz is now under contract, Matt Harrison signed a long-term deal yesterday, and the only player who is arbitration eligible with Texas who does not have a contract is outfielder David Murphy. Numbers are supposed to be exchanged for arbitration cases tomorrow, but if I were to guess, I'd say the Rangers end up working out a deal with Murphy prior to the deadline for requests to be exchanged.
