Rangers claim LHP Edwar Cabrera on waivers from Rockies

Troy Renck of the Denver Post tweets that the Rangers have claimed LHP Edwar Cabrera from the Colorado Rockies on waivers

USA TODAY Sports

Per Troy Renck on Twitter, the Rangers have apparently claimed lefthanded pitcher Edwar Cabrera on waivers from the Colorado Rockies:

Cabrera, who turns 26 in four days, was ranked by Baseball America as the #17 prospect in the Rockies' system coming into 2013, and the #18 prospect in the Texas League in 2012.  John Sickels had him #5 on the Rockies list heading into 2013, giving him a B-.

Cabrera missed all of the 2013 season with a shoulder injury, and spent the 2013 season on the 60 day disabled list, failing to pitch at all in either the majors or the minors.

The capsule scouting report on Cabrera is that he has a terrific change up, a fastball in the 88-92 range, and a curve, and that he relies on command more than stuff.  Shoulder injuries are always scary, but if he's healthy, he provides the Rangers with some decent depth.

Cabrera appears to have two options remaining.
