Rangers down to final four in bench coach hunt

Jeff Wilson writes that the Rangers have narrowed their hunt for a new bench coach down to four finalists.

The Final Four:

Tim Bogar, 46, former major league shortstop and, last year, the manager for the Angels' AA affiliate

Jamie Quirk, 59, former catcher and current bench coach for the Chicago Cubs

Jim Tracy, 57, former manager for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Colorado Rockies, and the bench coach in Colorado for former Ranger hitting coach Clint Hurdle, when Hurdle managed the Rockies

Sam Perlozzo, 62, former manager for the Baltimore Orioles and most recently a coach with the Philadelphia Phillies

Wilson notes that Bogar has ties with several folks already on the staff, and Bogar might be the favorite for the job, as he's considered an up-and-comer in the coaching ranks, someone who is seen as a future manager.  Evan Grant has previously written that Jon Daniels "wants a 'star' in the making as a bench coach," and Bogar is the closest thing to that among these finalists.
