Happy birthday to former Ranger righthander Bryan Corey, who turns 40 today.

Corey was signed as a minor league free agent by the Rangers in 2006, and ended up pitching 17 innings in relief for Texas after getting called up in early June.

When the Boston Red Sox were desperate for an arm to help solidify the depth in their bullpen, they ended up trading Luis Mendoza to the Rangers for Corey.  Mendoza wasn't thought of as much of a prospect at the time, but after a solid 2007 season in Frisco, Mendoza got a September call-up, and ended up logging 80 innings for the Rangers, albeit with a 7.73 ERA.

Corey was released by Boston soon after they traded for him, then re-signed with Boston and spent the next year and a half in their organization, before being purchased by the San Diego Padres.

I had forgotten this, but Corey spent the 2009 season back in the Rangers' organization, appearing in 31 games (including 15 starts) for Oklahoma City, putting up a 5.34 ERA.

Corey pitched in Japan in 2010, and spent time in the Mexican League and in the Independent Atlantic League in 2012.
