Friday morning Rangers news and links

Christian Petersen

Happy Friday, you guys.

So, the story of the day is Martin Perez and his shiny new contract.

T.R. Sullivan has a story on the Martin Perez contract, with quotes from Perez about how he wants to spend his career with the Rangers, and from Jon Daniels about having watched Perez develop since he was signed six and a half years ago.

Anthony Andro has a story about the Martin Perez contract news.

Drew Davison has a story in the S-T about Perez's new deal.

Perez says this new deal isn't going to change him.

Gerry Fraley writes that Perez had his agent approach the Rangers about a deal in part so he would have the financial security to bring his family to the U.S. from Venezuela.  Fraley also mentions that the Rangers have made a contract offer to Colby Lewis.

Craig Gentry was named the Wilson Defensive Player of the Year for the Rangers.

Richard Durrett asks, Should the Rangers trade Ian Kinsler to make room at second base for Jurickson Profar?

Josh Johnson's agent says that he has talked to the Rangers about Johnson, and that Johnson has always been interested in playing for the Rangers because, among other reasons, "They win all the time."

Durrett takes a look at the possibility of the Rangers signing free agent Jacoby Ellsbury, who doesn't seem like the best fit in Texas because, among other things, he's a centerfielder, and the Rangers currently have Leonys Martin, Craig Gentry, and Engel Beltre who play center.
