Sunday morning Rangers news and links

Ronald Martinez

With pitchers and catchers reporting on Tuesday, the papers have their spring training previews out today.

Jeff Wilson has a story on the Rangers' offseason, saying that the offseason didn't go as planned and that some players have "privately expressed displeasure" with how things are going, but that management is confident in how the team can perform.

Evan Grant offers five questions that the Rangers have to answer this spring.

Drew Davison has a piece that is "all about the Rangers' spring training site" at Surprise.

The DMN says Ron Washington is planning for "plenty of time in the classroom" this spring.

Tim Cowlishaw says that, if the Rangers are going to get back to the postseason, their quartet of young starters are going to have to carry them there.

The S-T has a rundown of the spring training roster with little blurbs about each player. The blurb for Yonata Ortega, a righty reliever who is an NRI, mentions that some in the organization thought another team might take him in the Rule 5 draft. Ortega walked 6.9 batters per nine in AA last season while allowing 8 homers in 52 innings, so he's not someone I'd have thought would be a real Rule 5 candidate, but there you go.

Evan Grant also has a rundown of the spring training roster with little blurbs about each player.

T.R. Sullivan has a blog post up which is a mixture of on-topic and off-topic thoughts heading into spring training.
