Saturday morning Rangers news and links

Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIRE

Hey everyone, guess what? There are trucks going to Surprise!

Yes, the Rangers have packed up their trucks and are sending stuff to Surprise. And it is story-worthy, apparently.

Drew Davison has a story about the Rangers packing up the trucks. So does T.R. Sullivan.

Bernie Pleskoff has a story about Ranger third base prospect Mike Olt, and the promising future Olt has.

T.R. Sullivan writes that the Rangers will have 8 pitchers vying for the #5 starter spot. Mike Maddux says that Robbie Ross, Justin Grimm, Martin Perez, Randy Wells, Kyle McClellan, Cody Buckel, and Nick Tepesch will all be stretched out as starters as they fight for the fifth starter job. That's only 7 guys, of course, but Maddux says there will be an 8th candidate, as well...he just hasn't identified that person yet.

Bill Richardson, who managed Hickory last year but was not brought back by the Rangers, has been hired by the Angels to manage their Pioneer League team. Anaheim, of course, has former Ranger front office guy Scott Servais in charge of player development, and so it is not unreasonable to believe that this is an issue of Servais bringing someone he worked with before to his new organization.

And in non-Ranger news, UT assistant football coach Major Applewhite hooked up with a student four years ago while at the Fiesta Bowl, something that is coming public now because the Board of Regents is having an emergency meeting tomorrow to discuss issues that apparently include that fling.
