The Rangers have announced more cuts from the big league camp this morning.
Pitchers Ben Rowen and Lisalverto Bonilla and infielder Yangervis Solarte have been sent to the minor league camp. Catcher Konrad Schmidt has been released.
Rowen and Bonilla started the spring in the minor league camp, but were recently brought to the major league camp after strong springs, coupled by many of the other Ranger bullpen options having poor springs. Rowen had his first bad outing of the spring yesterday, giving up 5 runs on 4 hits and an error while not retiring a batter.
Solarte was considered a possible candidate for the utility infielder spot, and had actually gotten some reps at shortstop this spring while Elvis Andrus, Jurickson Profar and Leury Garcia were out at the WBC, but with Jeff Baker claiming the a bench job, Solarte really had no spot on the team.
Schmidt had been claimed on waivers over the winter, then waived and outrighted by the Rangers.
There are now 39 players left in the major league camp.
