Texas Rangers lefthanded starting pitcher Matt Harrison has been placed on the 15 day disabled list retroactive to Saturday, April 6. Righthanded pitcher Justin Grimm is being recalled to take his spot on the roster and in the rotation, and is expected to start on Thursday, April 11.
Harrison, who struggled in his first two starts of the season, is dealing with lower back stiffness. The initial indications do not suggest that this is something that is expected to keep him out a lengthy amount of time.
Grimm was in the mix for the fifth starter job this spring, but fell out of contention early after a rough spring. Grimm put up a 9.00 ERA in 14 innings (2 starts, 3 relief appearances) in 2012 for the Rangers. In his lone start of the 2013 season for AAA Round Rock, Grimm went 5.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits and 2 walks, striking out 4.
