Left handed pitcher Jeff Beliveau, who was designated for assignment by the Rangers last week, has been traded to the Tampa Bay Rays for cash considerations.
Beliveau was claimed by the Rangers off of waivers from the Cubs in December, 2012. He had been optioned to AAA Round Rock in spring training.
Prior to March 31, 2012, the Rangers and Rays had never had a trade. The Rays acquired Kyle Hudson on March 31, 2012, however, and then last week the Rangers acquired Robinson Chirinos from the Rays. It was the acquisition of Chirinos that led Beliveau to be designated for assignment.
