Astros beat writer Brian McTaggart just tweeted that Reid Ryan will be named the new president of the Houston Astros this Friday.
Reid Ryan runs the minor league teams owned by Nolan Ryan, and his hiring would seem to suggest that the Astros will continue to have their team president focus primarily on the business side of things.
Jon Heyman had a story up earlier today saying that Ryan was thought to be the likely success to George Postolos, who resigned as Astros president on Monday.
While this doesn't directly affect the Rangers' situation, having Reid Ryan as the Astros team president while Nolan Ryan is in a lesser role with the Rangers now than he has been in prior seasons could, potentially, lead to Nolan possibly leaving the Rangers and joining the Astros. That scenario seems to be fairly far off, though.
The bigger question in the meantime is whether the hiring of Reid Ryan would mean the Round Rock Express resuming their former position as an Astros affiliate, rather than a Ranger affiliate.
