Yet another Ranger starting pitcher has been sidelined with a physical issue.
This time, it is starter Nick Tepesch, who has been scratched from tomorrow night's start because of a blister on his finger.
Tonight's game is somewhat in question, but if tonight's game does go forward, the Rangers will purchase the contract of Ross Wolf to make a spot start tomorrow. Otherwise, Yu Darvish, who is tonight's schedule starter, will start tomorrow.
I had no idea who Wolf was, or that he was even in the system, before this news. Wolf is a 30 year old righthander who was an 18th round draft pick of the Florida Marlins in 2002. He pitched in 14 games in relief for the Marlins in 2007, putting up an 11.68 ERA in 12.1 innings, and then pitching another 12.2 innings in relief for Oakland in 2010. Other than that, he's been a minor league lifer.
Wolf has made one relief appearance for Frisco, allowing a run, and has a 1.86 ERA in 6 starts for Round Rock this season.
Tepesch will reportedly try to start Sunday's game in Seattle, which would mean Darvish would start in Arizona in one of the doubleheader games.
The Rangers would have to make a roster move to add Wolf to the 25 man roster, and would likely option Joe Ortiz or Cory Burns to clear out a spot. Once Wolf makes his start, he would likely be dropped, and another minor league pitcher called up to keep a spot warm until Josh Lindblom is brought back up on Monday.
