Jason Cole of Lone Star Dugout tweeted this earlier this evening:
#Rangers 3B prospect Mike Olt playing in tonight's extended spring game, leading off every inning and DHing.— Jason Cole (@LoneStarDugout) May 29, 2013
Olt, considered the team's second best prospect (behind Jurickson Profar) coming into the season and ranked the #22 prospect in baseball by Baseball America and MLB.com coming into the season, had a poor training camp this spring, and then followed that up with an awful start to the AAA campaign, hitting .139/.235/.236 in 81 plate appearances for Round Rock.
Olt last played on April 25, and has been on the disabled list for the past month with issues related to his vision. There is some thought that this problem may have stemmed from a concussion suffered when he was beaned while playing winter ball.
Regardless of the cause of the problem, Olt is apparently doing better, and is now seeing live pitching as he prepared to return to action with the Express.
