The Rangers have announced a series of roster moves heading into tonight's game.
Utility man Jeff Baker, who has missed the past four games because of an injured thumb, has been placed on the 15 day disabled list. Baker last played on June 12, so he would be eligible to be activated on June 28.
Chris McGuiness, who has been playing first base since Mitch Moreland went on the disabled list, has been optioned.
To take the place of McGuiness and Baker on the active roster, the Rangers have recalled reliever Joe Ortiz and catcher/1B Robinson Chirinos.
This move leaves the Rangers with just a 3 man bench, with two of the men on the bench being primarily catchers. However, Mitch Moreland is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Friday, which will help shore up the ranks of position players on the bench. Moreland will likely resume playing first base every day upon his return.
