The Rangers have announced that Josh Lindblom is being optioned to AAA Round Rock, and righthanded reliever Wilmer Font will take his place on the active roster.
If we assume that Lindblom is going to stay in the rotation after the All Star break, then this would not require him to miss a start, as the All Star Break would allow sufficient time for him to stay in the minors the required 10 days before being recalled for his next start.
Font, 23, has a 1.27 ERA in 35.1 innings over 30 games, split between Frisco and Round Rock this season, with 49 Ks and 26 walks over that span, along with just 16 hits allowed.
Font missed all of 2011 after undergoing Tommy John surgery, and split 2012 between Myrtle Beach, Frisco, and the Rangers.
As was announced last night, Joseph Ortiz is also being recalled from AAA Round Rock to join the Ranger pen. He is filling to roster spot opened up by putting Yu Darvish on the 15 day d.l.
