Ken Rosenthal has just tweeted that Cubs pitcher Matt Garza is not expected to make his scheduled start tonight, and that the Cubs are close to a deal to send Garza to the Rangers.
Various reports have indicated that the Rangers thought they would consummate a deal last week in time for Garza to start on Saturday for Texas against the Orioles, but that deal fell through. The Rangers instead sent Ross Wolf to the mound, who allowed 7 runs in 2 IP.
The Rangers were swept at home by the Orioles in a three game set this weekend, dropping them three games back of the first place Oakland A's and a game and a half back of the Orioles for the second wild card spot, which could be putting pressure on the Rangers to get a deal done now.
Among the prospects who have been talked about as possibly being in a Garza deal are infielders Mike Olt, Leury Garcia and Luis Sardinas, and righthanded pitchers C.J. Edwards, Neil Ramirez and Luke Jackson.
More updates as we have more news...
UPDATE -- Per Jeff Passan, Mike Olt is one of the players going to the Cubs in this deal.
UPDATE -- Per Ken Rosenthal, it is Mike Olt, C.J. Edwards and a third player going to the Cubs for Garza
UPDATE -- Evan Grant says he's heard two different permutations of the deal -- one being Olt, Edwards and Neil Ramirez, the other being Olt, Edwards and Rougned Odor. In addition, people are reporting that there will be a player to be named later going to the Cubs.
UPDATE -- Jeff Passan says the third player in the deal is Justin Grimm. So that's Olt, Edwards, Grimm and a PTBNL for Garza.
