Tepesch, Berkman to the disabled list, Soria activated, Burns up

The Rangers have activated Joakim Soria and recalled Cory Burns

The Rangers have activated reliever Joakim Soria from the disabled list, and have recalled righthanded reliever Cory Burns from AAA.

Starting pitcher Nick Tepesch has been placed on the 15 day d.l. with elbow inflammation to make room for one of the two pitchers. The second move has yet to be announced.

Tepesch was scheduled to make only one more start before the All Star Break, on July 10. Presumably, either Josh Lindblom or Ross Wolf will make that start instead. Tepesch could be activated in time to make his first post-ASB start, if he's ready to go by then.

The second move could be Lance Berkman going on the disabled list, if he didn't check out well after leaving yesterday's game with an injury, or it could be Wolf or Lindblom being sent down.

Once that final move is announced, we will update this post with the information and our thoughts.

UPDATE -- Lance Berkman has been placed on the disabled list. Berkman hasn't been good this season, but this is yet another problem for a Ranger team that is facing significant depth issues among its position players.

Assuming Jurickson Profar is now in the lineup on an everyday basis going forward, the Ranger bench consists of Engel Beltre, Geovany Soto, and Robinson Chirinos. The need for a righthanded hitter who won't embarrass himself in the majors is glaring at this point.
