To follow up on yesterday's news that Luis Sardinas and Rougned Odor have been promoted from high-A Myrtle Beach to AA Frisco, we have the news that Luke Jackson is also being promoted to AA Frisco, while Carlos Pimentel is moving up to AAA Round Rock.
Jackson, who turns 22 in late August, has had a very solid campaign for Myrtle Beach, putting up a 2.41 ERA in 101 innings, striking out 104, walking 47 and allowing just 6 homers. The supplemental first round pick from the 2010 draft has been one of the real good stories from this season in the Ranger minor league system, and has established himself as probably the top pitching prospect in the upper levels of the organization.
Pimentel, 23, was in his third year at AA (fourth if you count his one appearance for Frisco in 2010), and has showed some potential promise, putting up a 4.09 ERA in 116.2 innings while averaging over a K per inning and putting up a 3.3 K:BB ratio. Pimentel's future, if he makes the big leagues, is likely as a reliever, but this will give him a chance to show what he can do against more advanced competition.
Also being promoted to Frisco from Myrtle Beach are 25 year old relievers Jon Edwards and Francisco Mendoza.
To make room on the roster for the new arrivals, infielders Hanser Alberto and Odubel Herrera and pitchers Nick McBride and Kevin Pucetas are being sent from Frisco to Myrtle Beach. As was discussed last night, Alberto and Herrera probably should have been at Myrtle Beach all season, but the presence of Sardinas and Odor necessitated them playing in Frisco instead.
