Colby Lewis goes 5 IP, allows 2 runs in rehab start

Colby Lewis has a solid, but not spectacular, outing for Frisco in what could be his final rehab start

USA TODAY Sports

Colby Lewis had another solid, if not spectacular, rehab outing for the AA Frisco Roughriders today.

Lewis went 5 innings and 86 pitches, striking out three batters, walking one, and allowing six hits, including a first inning solo homer.

Tepid Participation, who is at the game, was tweeting that Lewis was at 85-88 mph with his fastball on in the first inning and 86-89 mph in the second.

Lewis had said earlier in the week that he thought this would be the last rehab start he would need before he would be ready to return to the majors. It remains to be seen whether the Rangers will be ready to activate him, however, or if he will be asked to make another start. Alexi Ogando, the starter whose spot in the rotation would seem to be most vulnerable right now, starts again on Wednesday -- after going 86 pitches today, the Rangers wouldn't ask Lewis to go Wednesday on short rest. The Rangers are off on Thursday, and I could see Texas having Lewis make another rehab start on Thursday in the minors, then activate him to take Ogando's spot in the rotation on Tuesday, August 13, at home against the Brewers.
