Cruz fires agents, expected to accept suspension

Nelson Cruz will reportedly not challenge the 50 game suspension expected to be assessed against him today

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

Ranger outfielder Nelson Cruz, who is expected to have a 50 game suspension announced later today for his involvement with Biogenesis, has fired his agents, Sam and Seth Levinson of ACEs, and has hired Adam Katz as his new agent.

The Levinsons represented Melky Cabrera, who was suspended last season and who created a fake website to purportedly show that he had acquired PEDs inadvertently, as well as several other players involved in the Biogenesis scandal.

Jon Heyman writes that Cruz has told people he does not plan to appeal the suspension. If Cruz doesn't appeal, he will miss the remainder of the regular season, although he would be eligible to return for the postseason, if the Rangers make the playoffs.

If Cruz is out, the Rangers would likely recall Engel Beltre from the minors to take his place on the active roster, and will also continue to be active in looking to find a viable outfield bat via trade.
