Per the beat writers on Twitter, outfielders Engel Beltre and Joey Butler are being promoted from AAA Round Rock to the majors today.
Butler, 27, is in his third season at AAA Round Rock. While Butler's line for the season is just .290/.375/.437, he has a 952 OPS against lefthanders this season, and thus could be viewed as a platoon DH. Butler is not considered to be a very good defender in the outfield.
Beltre is returning to the majors after having spent a good chunk of time up here already this summer. He's fast and an elite defender in the outfield, but doesn't hit much.
While Nelson Cruz's suspension opens up one roster spot, there is no indication right now what move will be made to clear a second roster spot. Since the Rangers currently have two utility infielders -- Jurickson Profar and Adam Rosales -- on the roster, along with Jeff Baker, who can play all the infield positions except shortstop, the most likely scenario (barring a position player going on the d.l.) would be either Profar being sent down or Rosales being designated for assignment.
