Baseball America has started rolling out their top 20 prospect lists for each minor league, and kicks things off with the Arizona Rookie League. The Rangers' AZL affiliate had four players crack the top 20.
Checking in at #6 on the list was 2013 2nd round draft pick Akeem Bostick. The righthanded pitcher signed a below-slot deal, and was seen by some as a reach, but BA praises his "athletic, projectable" frame and says some observers thought he was the best pitching prospect in the league.
Travis Demeritte, the Rangers' 2nd first round pick in 2013, checks in at #9 on the list, just ahead of Jairo Beras, who was at #10.
Rounding out the top 20 list is one of most intriguing picks from the Rangers' 2013 draft, Cole Wiper. Wiper got $700,000 as a draft-eligible redshirt freshman, the third highest bonus the Rangers paid out to a 2013 draftee, and apparently got some really nice reviews while pitching in the AZL.
BA's also put up their "Five Years Ago" top 20 list from the AZL to offer a point of comparison, and two Rangers made the cut that year -- Joe Wieland and Clark Murphy.
