Alex Rodriguez has been suspended for 162 games

ARod suspension: Alex Rodriguez has been suspended 162 games for his involvement in the Biogenesis scandal, according to multiple reports on Twitter.

MLB originally sought to suspend Alex Rodriguez for 211 games for his involvement with the Biogenesis clinic.  Ryan Braun was suspended 65 games for his involvement, and all other players who were suspended for their involvement received 50 game suspensions.  Rodriguez was the only player to appeal his suspension, and the case was submitted to an arbitrator.  The 162 game suspension is the arbitrator's decision.

There had been previous indications that ARod would go to federal court to challenge a decision that resulted in his being suspended.  It is unknown whether he will pursue that potential remedy at this point.

Assuming this suspension sticks and is served in 2014, the Yankees will not have to pay ARod for 2014, and he will not count towards their luxury tax calculations, which frees them to spend additional money this offseason while potentially staying under the cap.
