The Texas Rangers have named their minor league award winners for 2013.
Luke Jackson was named the Nolan Ryan minor league pitcher of the year. Jackson had a 2.41 ERA in 101 innings in high-A Myrtle Beach, with 104 Ks and 47 walks, before being promoted to AA Frisco, where he put up a 0.67 ERA in 27 innings, striking out 30, walking 12 and allowing just 13 hits. The 2010 supplemental first round pick is considered to be one of the organization's top pitching prospects.
Rougned Odor was named the Tom Grieve minor league player of the year. Odor, like Jackson, split the season between Myrtle Beach and Frisco. The 19 year old had a combined .305/.365/.474 slash line in 130 games, while getting good reviews for his glovework at second base and his hard-nosed attitude.
2010 first rounder Jake Skole was named the organization's minor league defender of the year.
Alex Claudio, a 21 year old lefty who was a 27th round pick in the 2010 draft, was named the organization's minor league reliever of the year. He put up a 1.83 ERA in 78.2 innings between low-Hickory and Frisco, with 91 Ks and 18 walks allowed.
The Rangers have also promoted a pair of their international scouts.
Gil Kim has been promoted to the position of director of international scouting, and Rafic Saab has been promoted to the director of Latin American scouting.
