Masahiro Tanaka: Five teams make formal bids, Rangers not among them

Masahiro Tanaka rumors: Tanaka has received formal offers from five teams, according to MLBTradeRumors.com (passing on a Nikkan Sports report).

The Texas Rangers are not one of the five teams to make a formal offer, per this report.  It is the Yankees, the Dodgers, the Cubs, the White Sox, and the Diamondbacks who are identified as making formal offers, with the D-Backs apparently being the high club right now at 6 years, $120 million.

Tanaka is considered the top free agent pitcher this offseason, and any team who signs him will have to pay his NPB club a $20 million posting fee on top of what they'd be paying him.

Reports have indicated that the Rangers like Tanaka a lot, and there was some thought that they might go after him, particularly once Derek Holland went down.  But after committing seven figures to Shin-Soo Choo, it appears the Rangers are willing to pass on offering $120-140 million for Tanaka.
