Outfielder Rafael Ortega has been claimed on waivers by the St. Louis Cardinals from the Texas Rangers, according to reports on Twitter.

Ortega had been designated for assignment last week, after the Rangers acquired righthander Miles Mikolas from the Pittsburgh Pirates in the deal that sent Chris McGuiness (who the Rangers DFA'd to make room on their roster for Shin-Soo Choo) to Pittsburgh.

Ortega had been claimed on waivers earlier in the offseason from the Colorado Rockies.  The 22 year old Venezuelan is a speedy, light-hitting centerfielder who put up a .228/.315/.297 line in 178 plate appearances for AA Tulsa last year.
