Texas Rangers prospects: Baseball America's Northwest League top 20 list came out today, and the list includes three Rangers prospects.
2014 third round draft pick Josh Morgan, a middle infielder who also made the Arizona Rookie League top 20 list, checks in at #10. 20 year old righthanded pitcher Richelson Pena was #13 on the list, and 2014 sixth rounder Jose Trevino was #15.
Pena is the most intriguing player in the group, a guy who pitched stateside for the first time this year after having pitched in the DSL in 2011-13. He's a small pitchability guy who put up a 3.36 ERA in 72 innings for Spokane, with 15 walks and 67 Ks.
Morgan is a polished high school draftee who gets good marks for his baseball instincts and approach at the plate despite somewhat limited tools. He put up a .303/.392/.315 line in 89 ABs for Spokane.
Trevino is a hitter who caught in college, and who BA says the Rangers are hoping will stay behind the plate. He put up a .257/.313/.448 line for Spokane.
The BA list from five years ago included four Rangers prospects -- Robbie Ross, Miguel Velazquez, Tommy Mendonca, and Braden Tullis. Alas...
